Vegan Chocolate Smoothie Recipes: All you need to know

There are so many ways to make vegan chocolate smoothies and I am going to share a few in this blog.

If you are trying to stay off caffeine, then feel free to replace cocoa powder or cacao powder with carob powder. The taste is quite different and can take time to getting use to it, using some vanilla extract or vanilla bean powder with this makes it easy as it adds a nice flavor.

Read till the end for various options to garnish these smoothies.

OPTION 01: Coco Banana Choco Smoothie

The first option I am sharing today is smoothie made with cream from tender coconut (the green one). Tender coconut cream is a great source of fiber and healthy fats. As it is saturated fats, it should be consumed in small quantities.

Coco Banana Choco Smoothie

Prep Time 15 mins
Course Breakfast, Snack
Servings 2 Glasses

Equipment

  • Blender or smoothie maker like nutribullet

Ingredients

  • 2 Bananas 2 large or 3 medium, can freeze the banana for 4-6 hours before making this for a smooth texture
  • 1/2 cup Tender coconut cream
  • 2 tbsp Date puree or 3-4 dates soaked for 4 hours, adjust according to your taste
  • 2 tbsp Cacao or cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup Water or more as desired for consistency.

Instructions

  • Add everything in a blender with half a cup of water and make a smooth paste.
  • Check consistency and add more water or ice and blend again till desired consistency is reached.

Notes

  1. For a creamier texture in smoothies, you can use fruits that have been frozen for 4-8 hours and then thawed for 5-10 minutes.
  2. If using dates, make sure to remove the seeds from dates before adding them to the blender.
  3. If you want these to be caffeine free, replace cocoa/cacao powder with carob powder.
  4. You can also use fresh coconut water instead of water, it has a nice taste.
  5. I am using the metric system, 1 cup = 250ml.

OPTION 02: Sinful Banana Chocolate Smoothie

An all time favorite chocolate smoothie. I firmly believe in following good food combining and prefer not to mix fruits and nuts. But did you know that cashews that we buy are not raw? That is true, they need to boiled/roasted in order to extract them from their shells. I love this fact as this makes them suitable for being mixed with fruits which in turn gives us a new dimension in making smoothies. Adding handful of soaked cashews in a vegan smoothie makes a huge difference in the taste and texture.

Having said that, I would like to mention that since the cashews are not raw, a smoothie made with cashews will not be fully raw. So keep that in mind. But its OK to have it once in a while. It is specially great for those who are new to veganism or transitioning to a plant-based diet.

OPTION 03: Happy Chocolate Smoothie

If you like coconut milk like I do, then you will love this. Home made, fresh coconut milk is a great alternative to cow’s milk and comes with a host of health benefits. It is a great source of calcium, potassium, iron and magnesium. Regular consumption can help builds muscle mass, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, improve digestion and relieves constipation. It is also a great source of electrolytes.
